The Smiles Foundation – Container Challenge
We are writing to see if there is any way your company would be able to help us with a project we are currently working on. We are involved with The Smiles Foundation, a Christian charity that provides aid to very poor families in North West Romania.
We have recently undertaken a container challenge here in Cumbria. One of our supporters has donated a 40' long container to us. Our challenge is to fill it with everyday household items then transport it to Romania and distribute the items to our families. Once emptied we plan to convert the container into living accommodation for a very needy family.
We desperately need help with transporting the container to Romania and were wondering if this is something with which your organisation would like to be involved. We are looking for help in a number of ways; By finding a haulier able to transport the container for us perhaps, by asking hauliers and others to sponsor part / all of the transport costs and to offer advice as to rules and customs regulations.
We realise that this is asking a lot of companies especially in the current economic climate, but this container is desperately needed in Romania and we are keen to get the process rolling as soon as possible. Obviously any company able to help us out with this challenge would have their name prominently displayed on the container during transportation and the local press would also be invited to report about the containers progress.
Some containers from other parts of the UK have already arrived in Romania and have reported a positive response from local companies wishing to become involved.
At present our container is sited in Wigton and supporters throughout Cumbria are starting to collect items from a 'wish list.' We would hope to be in a position to transport the container to Romania late Spring early Summer but as yet no solid deadlines have been established.
