I am an investigative journalist based in the South East, and am already working with a couple of Hauliers in my area.
I am predominantly concerned with Hauliers or truck drivers who have suffered damage to their vehicles and their stock, as a result of the breaking in and entry by illegal immigrants.
Whilst the problems surrounding the amassed numbers of illegal immigrants in Calais is widely reported, I feel that the frequent victims, Haulage companies and their drivers, do not receive the coverage that this problem warrants.
I have already uncovered several cases where individuals gained access to drivers’ trucks, causing extensive damage to the vehicle itself and also to the trucks load by either opening their contents or, in some cases, urinating on them.
Whilst the miscreants themselves may well be subsequently discovered and apprehended, my investigations suggest that they never face the consequences for what amounts to criminal damage, with the bills having to be picked up by the hauliers and their insurance companies.
I would be particularly interested in exposing and reporting on those cases where there is photographic evidence of the damage caused available.
I would be most grateful to learn if you have any experience of this matter and whether you would be happy to assist with my investigation in order to expose what I see as the ‘hidden’ and unreported costs of this ongoing problem.
